Ballistic Insert plates to TacMod vest

- Categories: Ballistic protective equipment
The protection of TacMod vest can be increased with hard ballistic Insert Plates, which can be put in the plate pockets in front and back of the vest. Because Emergency Services personnel carries a lot of equipment, it is paramount to have additional protection with as little additional weight as possible.
Even though CPE ballistic insert plate is extremely lightweight, it gives full protection on protection level NIJ III+ ICW against rifle caliber ammunition. The plates are tested against six shots with NATO 7.62×51 M80, which is NATO long rifle caliber. The caliber is used for example for moose hunting with its civilian equivalent .308 Winchester. Plate also gives protection against 7.62×39 MSC, which is the famous Kalashnikov caliber with Mild Steel Core ammunition. In practice the plates protect against all rifle caliber ammunition without armour piercing bullets.
The weight is very low, only 800 grams (1,75 lbs) per plate, thus adding the total weight on the rescuer only by 1,6 kilograms with two plates. The plates are designed and tested to be used together (In Conjunction With, ICW) with the NIJ IIIA soft panels. These plates require both soft and hard panel to give the required protection. The plate can also be ordered as Stand Alone (SA) plate, which works also without the soft panel. Stand Alone plate weighs 900 grams (2 lbs) per plate. Plates are manufactured of Ultra-High Molecular Weigh Polyethene (UHMWPE).
The plates are coated with weather and watertight black polyurea. Plates have positive buoyance, so it floats alone and also floats the user lightly.
